Virtual EMDR Therapy in Ontario
EMDR therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space
EMDR therapy can be provided virtually, allowing you to access trauma-focused support without travelling to an office.
I provide virtual EMDR therapy to adults across Ontario through secure online sessions. Whether you're working through trauma, distressing memories, anxiety, or emotionally overwhelming experiences, we'll work collaboratively and at a pace that feels manageable for you.
You don't need to know whether virtual EMDR is right for you before reaching out. We can talk about what you're experiencing, answer your questions, and explore whether this approach may be a good fit.
EMDR may be helpful when past experiences or distressing memories continue to affect how you feel, think, or respond in the present.
Virtual EMDR may be considered for:
Trauma and PTSD
Distressing or intrusive memories
Childhood trauma and difficult past experiences
Anxiety and panic
Phobias and fears
Grief and loss
Shame, guilt, or negative beliefs about yourself
Emotional responses that feel difficult to manage
During an initial consultation, we'll explore what brings you to therapy and whether EMDR may be an appropriate approach.
What Can Virtual EMDR Help With?
How Does Virtual EMDR Therapy Work?
Virtual EMDR follows the same structured therapeutic approach as in-person EMDR, with bilateral stimulation adapted for an online setting.
Sessions take place through secure video from a private, comfortable space. I'll guide you through the process and help you develop grounding and coping strategies before beginning reprocessing.
Bilateral stimulation may involve guided eye movements, alternating sounds, or other methods appropriate for virtual therapy.
You remain in control throughout the process. We can pause, adjust, or slow down whenever needed.
What Can I Expect During a Virtual EMDR Session?
Your sessions will be tailored to your individual needs rather than following a one-size-fits-all timeline.
Before beginning reprocessing, we'll spend time getting to know your experiences, establishing a therapeutic relationship, and developing strategies to help you feel grounded and supported.
When you're ready, we may identify a specific memory, experience, belief, or current concern to work with. I'll guide you through the process while you notice what comes up for you.
You may notice changes in thoughts, emotions, memories, physical sensations, or perspectives. Everyone's experience is different, and there is no particular way you're expected to respond.
Not every session will involve active reprocessing. Preparation, stabilization, or checking in about what you're experiencing may sometimes be the most appropriate focus.
Creating a Comfortable Space for Virtual EMDR
One benefit of virtual therapy is being able to participate from a space where you feel comfortable.
Before your session, choose a private location where you are unlikely to be interrupted. Having water nearby and allowing yourself some time before and after your appointment can also be helpful.
We'll discuss your environment and what you need to feel comfortable before beginning reprocessing.
Do I Have to Talk About Everything That Happened?
No.
You don't have to describe every detail of a difficult experience for EMDR to take place. We'll discuss what you're comfortable sharing and determine together what information is relevant to your treatment.
You remain in control of what you share, and we can work at a pace that feels manageable.
Is Virtual EMDR Right for Me?
Virtual EMDR can be a convenient option if you prefer receiving therapy from home or have difficulty accessing specialized therapy in person.
At the same time, virtual therapy isn't necessarily the best fit for everyone. We'll consider your circumstances, experiences, goals, and preferences when determining whether virtual EMDR is appropriate.
You don't need to make that decision on your own. During a consultation, we can talk about what you're looking for and answer your questions.
Why Choose Virtual EMDR Therapy?
Virtual therapy makes it possible to access specialized support without the time and travel involved in attending an office.
It may be particularly helpful if you:
Live outside a major urban centre
Have difficulty travelling to appointments
Prefer the privacy of your own space
Have a busy work or family schedule
Feel more comfortable receiving therapy from home
I provide virtual psychotherapy to adults across Ontario, allowing you to access EMDR regardless of where you live in the province.
